Private Child Custody Recommending Counseling (“PCCRC”) is a non-confidential mediation-evaluation process initiated either by Stipulation and Order or by direct Court Order. The process begins as a mediation, during which the PCCRC counselor helps parents develop agreements that serve the Best Interests of the Child(ren). If any issues remain unresolved, the process transitions to an evaluation phase. The PCCRC counselor then prepares recommendations for the Court’s consideration that reflect the Best Interests of the Child(ren).

Child Custody Evaluations (FC §§ 3110–3111) are ordered by the Court. This comprehensive evaluation involves the appointed evaluator gathering information about the family through interviews, observations, and relevant documents and collateral sources. The evaluator assesses the family’s circumstances and provides a written report to the Court, offering professional recommendations based on their findings. These recommendations are intended to assist the Court in determining what arrangements are in the Best Interests of the Child(ren).
